May 18, 2011. Today the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan within the Strengthening the Statistical System Project (TAJSTAT) to conduct a final conference. The goal of the one day conference is to sum up the results of the project and further development of statistics in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2011-2016. The conference is attended 75 representatives including the staff of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan office, World Bank, DFID, ministries and agencies of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Along with the results of the current project, first draft of the Multiyear Integrated Statistical Program (MISP 2) for 2011-2016 was provided to the audience. The document has been drafted with recently established Agency’s working group with the support of the experts from the consortium countries (Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Slovak and Check republic). The main goal of the circulation of the MISP to wider audience is to get feedbacks from local and international stakeholders prior to submission to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and donor organizations.
The Strengthening the National Statistical System Tajikistan began its work in July 2006 and until May 2011 managed to approve a new edition of the Law on State Statistics, installed local computer system network and provided communication with the regional statistical offices and the Dushanbe statistical office, provided 80 computers for the Registry of Births offices, Marriages and Deaths of Ministry of Justice of RT to improve the registration of births, deaths and marriages that take place in registry offices throughout the country, acquisition of 137 computers, printers and risographs for all regional and district statistical offices of the Agency on Statistics, purchased 13 vehicles, organized more than 33 study tours to Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey for 107 members of the Agency on Statistics and other governmental agencies.
The TAJSTAT Project was launched in July 2006 and was funded by International Development Association (World Bank), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA ), UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Total amount of the project is 5.85 mln USD. The main objective of the Project is to provide assistance in the modernization and the improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the national statistical system in order to provide relevant, timely and reliable data for evidence-based policy making in support of governments poverty reduction strategies and the process of economic development. The Project consists of the several components such as institutional development, human resource development, development of statistical infrastructure, data development, physical infrastructure and equipment.
