On March 5, 2018, the Agency on statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held an interdepartmental meeting of the working group devoted to the transition into the GDP quarterly accounts of the Republic of Tajikistan and the classification of folk crafts, which was attended by representatives of the Ministries of: Finance, Justice, Labor, Migration and Employment, Agriculture, Industry and New Technologies; State Committee for Land Management and Geodesy, Committee for Tourism, Forestry Agency, Customs Service and etc.
The meeting was opened by the Director of the Agency on statistics with opening remarks, Ms. Gulnora Hasanzoda who noted that the experience of developed countries, including the CIS countries, shows that the transition to the GDP quarterly method is more accurate and reliable. Therefore, this project in the Agency for Statistics will be considered by working groups, and then, taking into account all suggestions will be submitted to the Government of the Republic.
Ms. Hasanzoda also noted that the Leader of the Nation, in his Message to the Parliament of the Republic declared the 2018 year the year of tourism and folk crafts. In this context, a classification of folk crafts and a report on the activities of the subjects rendering services in the field of tourism were developed.
Further, the Head of the National Accounts Department of the Agency, Ms. S. Minakova spoke and told about the preparatory work on the transition to quarterly GDP in the Republic of Tajikistan. It was noted that as a result of the implementation of this method the following objectives can be achieved:
Introduction of a new standard of the international system of national accounts;
Introduction of the classification of new economic activities;
New requirements, new data sources;
Improvement of GDP accounts and other macroeconomic data;
Introduction and distribution of quarterly GDP accounts;
Efficient use of resources.
The following persons spoke on the second issue: Ms. Rajabova Nigina, Head of the Department for Registering, Classifying and Disseminating of Statistical Information; Mr. Asmatbekov Firdavsi, Head of the Department for Trade and Service Statistics and Mr. Gafurov Sheravgan, Head of the Department for Industrial and Investment Statistics. It was informed that the following groups for the folk craft industry were identified:
01. Manufacture of food products;
02. Manufacture of textiles and clothing;
03. Manufacture of leather goods and footwear;
04. Wood processing and manufacture of wooden products;
05. Manufacture of pharmaceutical products and perfumes;
06. Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products;
07. Manufacture of metals and fabricated metal products;
08. Manufacture of other products;
10. National cuisine;
11. Activities in the health sector;
12. Activities in the field of entertainment.
At the end of the interdepartmental meeting, the opinions and suggestions of the participants were heard out. All participants were provided with the necessary materials and time was defined for presenting the conclusions, offers and suggestions.
