The national seminar on gender statistics in agriculture under the Project "Strengthening the national capacity for the production and analysis of data disaggregated by sex through the mechanism of gender FAO agricultural statistics” was held in the Agency for Statistics.
This regional project is funded by the Government of Turkey and covers three countries: Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The event was organized by the Food and Agriculture Programme of the United Nations, which contributes to the capacity-building and harmonization of national statistics with international standards.
The main objective of this project is aimed at strengthening local capacity for the production of statistical data from various sources on gender in agriculture and rural areas.
In addition, it was planned the formation of a database of indicators recommended by the FAO Regional Office for subsequent comparison and international comparability.
In July this year the Agency held a "round table" with the participation of representatives of relevant ministries and departments, representatives of private business, non-governmental organizations in improving agriculture, international organizations, and other interested parties.
The round table discussed a set of gender indicators in agriculture developed by the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and is composed of 18 indicators.
On the basis of these and other existing data there will be created national gender profiles of agricultural households.
A list of indicators was discussed at the meeting of the working group of the Agency from July to October and according to some of them the scripts for output tables Census of Agriculture were developed, which will be published until the end of December 2015.
According to the agenda during two days the participants were presented the draft Guidelines on gender statistics in agriculture for the countries of Central Asia, the selection of suitable indicators for agriculture and rural households, draft national gender profile of Tajikistan, prepared by international and local experts of the project: Ms. Dono Abdurazakova, Gender and Social Protection Expert, FAO; Ms. Elisabeth Duban, Consultant on gender issues, FAO and Ms. Sofia Kasimova, Expert on gender issues, FAO.
