Meeting of the methodological Council

On January 30, 2013 there was a regular meeting of the Methodological Council of the Statistical Agency attended by the Deputy Director, the MCC management, heads of subject matter departments and divisions. The sample survey methodology of dekhkan farms in Tajikistan was considered at the meeting.

It should be noted that the Project expert together with the Statistical Agency employees developed a sample survey methodology within “Support to strengthening of the national food security information system in Tajikistan” project, the UN Food and Agriculture Program, in order to improve the statistical methodology of the dekhkan farms activities and reduce the burden on dekhkan farms. The methodology was tested in 11 cities and districts of the republic.

The methodology should have been developed because the number of dekhkan farms increases with every other day due to rehabilitation and reform of agriculture, which makes it difficult to have a complete coverage of the activities of dekhkan farms.

Project expert Mamuka Nodirashvili provided information with concrete examples about positive and negative aspects of the methodology based on the developed databases; he also made a presentation on use of this methodology.

After that a Tursunzade survey database established on the sample survey results was presented and compared with the total survey data.
Taking into account the opinion of experts, it was agreed at the meeting that the methodology should be taken into consideration; the heads of subject matter departments and divisions of the Agency should carefully study the methodology and then submit a draft of final version of the document to the Agency management for approval.
The management of the Statistical Agency expressed its gratitude to the UN Food and Agriculture Program, and noted that there should be training for regional statistical offices on the use of this methodology if this document is adopted.
