National consultation and validation workshop on statistics

The one day consultation and validation workshop was held on the 21st of December in Dushanbe. The event was organized by the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank. The workshop was carried out within the framework of the regional programme “Promoting Gender Inclusive Growth in Central and West Asia” that covers ten countries such as Caucuses, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Aims of the regional programme is to provide technical support to the countries to improve their capacity in gender mainstreaming and thus contribute to achievement gender-inclusive growth.

The workshop was opened with welcoming remarks made by Mrs. Bakhtiya Mukhammadieva, Director of the Agency on Statistics and Mr. Joji Tokeshi, Country Director, ADB Tajikistan Resident Mission. The workshop participants were representatives of the Agency on Statistics, line ministries, Council of Justice, General Prosecutor’s Office, Committee of Youth, Civil Servant Training Institute and also representatives of civil society , such as NGO “Women with High Education”, and international organizations – UNDP, UNFPA and others.

During the discussions, participants received feedback on the results of regional assessments and progress in the collection, analysis and use of gender statistics. It is encouraging that in the regional assessment the Republic of Tajikistan has been included in the group of countries that have made significant progress in this area. Nevertheless, much remains to be done to ensure that gender statistics - gathering data about the real situation of women and men - has become an active tool in the decision-making to meet the needs and interests of women and men. Participants agreed that the discussions held and recommendations made will be the first step towards creating partnerships of all stakeholders for further active measures.
